Muddy Walking

TRAINING
Well I didn't do much training during the week (just a bit of a jog to be exact and not a very successful one at that) but yesterday I went out for a cross-country walk with my friends Jenn and Malc. We walked from their house in Albury across the muddy fields to a pub in a village somewhere that I can't remember the name of! It was a very wet and rainy two hour journey but the pub was absolutely lovely and we had a nice lunch.
We went a different way home and after a few 'where are we' moments, we arrived home 3 hours later. Very tired, very wet and extremely muddy! The heavy mud on our boots made it very challenging - even Malcolm said it was tough!

We all fell asleep on the sofas later; I think you could say 'we were nicely knackered'!

FUNDRAISING
On Friday I gave a talk to 2nd year student doctors at The University College London about my experiences with Huntington's Disease in my family and they are going to pay £100 towards my fundraising. Mum and I do this every year for the HDA and Mums £100 will go to my fundraising as well. I also gave out little cards with my justgiving site on and 2 other speakers/lecturers gave me a total of £13 and one of the students has sponsored me £5 on my justgiving site.

After the talk, I met my friends and we went for a very posh afternoon tea at Gorings Hotel in London (opp Buck Palace) and the doormen gave me another £6! The total is slowly creeping up. Also my friend Jan put £20 on so I'm now up to £1,040 on justgiving.

BARN DANCE
31 tickets are now spoken for.

RAFFLE OF TREATMENTS
I've gone ahead and ordered 500 raffle tickets for my holistic treatments.
The prizes are:

1st Prize: TOP-TO-TOE (a full body aromatherapy massage, with face and head included, finishing off with a reflexology treatment) worth £70

2nd Prize: REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT worth £30

3rd Prize: BACK/NECK/SHOULDER MASSAGE worht £25

My friend Jan is raising money for charity as well and, after our wonderful afternoon of sandwiches, cakes and scones we're thinking about doing an afternoon tea ourselves to raise some more money.

  1. I found this blog interesting as I am struggling to work out how to do the training for my charity trek.
I am going to climb Kilimanjaro for charity but I have been struggling to find anywhere to practise near to my home. The most promising route is muddier than the one you walked across I think, and I am actually a bit worried about my wellies getting sucked right off my feet, as happened to my uncle there a while back.
No one told me that this would be a complicatin when they were warning me against altitude sickness and blisters on my feet
