I've joined the Gym!

GYM TRAINING

Andy has kindly paid for me to be a gym member for 3 months, to help prepare me for Kilimanjaro. So I'm now a member of the Walnuts Leisure Centre, which means that I can also use the swimming pool. I had my induction last Friday and have had a couple of mini personal training sessions, which come with the membership. So the first session was weight, height, measurements etc. and objectives. Obviously my objective is to get myself as prepared as possible for the challenge that is Kili!

So, I've used the bike on a setting called - guess what? - KILIMANJARO! (basically climb up and then down) and a machine called - guess what? - the SUMMIT machine! Perfect for mountain climbing training. It's like the cross trainer but it is on a steep incline.

On Monday my trainer, Richard, worked with me on my legs! I have to say, I didn't really enjoy it much, but I want for a swim afterwards which was my treat! I cycle to the gym and coming back I cycle up a really steep hill. On Monday I didn't make it. My legs let me down and I had to walk the second half. Today we worked on my core muscles, to strengthen my lower back, which is my week spot. And I did a run on the treadmill and managed to get up the hill on the way back! So now I know what to do, I just have to do it!

SNOWDONIA (Me and Stuart at the Summit last year)

This weekend a group of us are off to Snowdonia to tackle Mount Snowdon. I'm not sure which route we'll take yet, but I'm hoping it's going to be the challenging and less busy South Ridge path. I haven't had my boots on since Austria, and I'm quite looking forward to it. Laura and Ellie are coming, they're 2 of the ladies from the China Trek last year. Fingers crossed that the weather will hold. Last time I went (september last year) it rained a lot and was so foggy we couldn't see anything!
